I started running Nov. 2007. I signed up to do Vancouver half marathon with TNT and Rick Leedy was my coach. He insisted I do a full marathon and that's who got me into the big miles. Ran Vancouver Marathon May 2008, then Detroit Marathon Oct. 2008. The following year I signed up for Flying Pig marathon with TNT and ran that May 2009. About a month before Rick was doing his first 100 miler and I came to crew. I was planning to run 25 miles with him, which ended up being 40. At that point, he said it was time to do my own ultra (which I vowed I would never do more than a marathon). Next thing I know, I'm signed up for North Country 50 miler with Rick and Bill Moyer.
Marathons : Vancouver 2008, Flying Pig 2009, 2010, Detroit 2008, 2009, Rockhead 2009 - PR 4:10 at Detroit
Ultras : North Country 50 mile 2009, Land Between the Lakes 60K 2010, Forget the PR Mohican 50K 2010
Favorite race : Hard to say, each had its own special moment, each ultra distance was a first for me.
I'm just waiting for the ultra where I'm the only one in my age group, so I can place :)

I'm attaching a bio to this just by way of introduction; basically I'm a jazz pianist and teach at the UM School of Music by day, run and work out at night or on the weekends. I've run about 10 marathons, 2 trail marathons, with my PR being 3:40 and change at Detroit and also do some fairly serious mountain climbing, including Rainer a few times and Denali. I have also ran 2 50k’s with my best time of 5:10:30. Eventually I want to try one of the western 100 milers, but that will be a few years off.

age 42, married, two kids aged 18 and 12.
I’ve been running now for a little over 22 years (January 4th, 1988 was my first official ‘run’ as a ‘runner’), spending the last 11 years running ultras off and on. My experiences range from many, many 5k races, to triathlons (sprint, Olympic, and half-ironman distances), to the marathon and ultra marathon. Strangely enough, I haven’t run but probably six 50 mile races, about as many 50k races, and five 100 mile races. My goal is to stay healthy enough to run two or three 100 mile races a year with some 50k and 50 mile races thrown in for training. Grew up in the thumb of Michigan in a small town (60 or so people) called Filion on a large farm with cattle and about 700 acres (near Bad Axe). I am a graduate of Central Michigan University (fire up Chips!) and currently am employed as a technical pre-sales consultant for a software company. I really enjoy going out for long runs and challenging myself to see what my body can survive. Future races include Western States, Leadville, Vermont, Wasatch, The Bear, Cactus Rose, the Naughty Hatchet 100 miler, and the Arctic Ultra (300 mile version).
